Boca de Cão and its Céu Salgado in Alma Box
The Boca de Cão theatre company was in artistic residence at Alma Box in March for its upcoming show Céu Salgado (Salty Sky), which will also premiere in Montemor-o-Novo, as part of the 16th Montemor-o-Novo International Puppet Festival.
“Look up at the sky to see the sea!
A group of divers bring ashore the wreck of a ship that has long remained at the bottom of the sea. The force of the wind stirs up sea creatures that reveal their magic, reminding us of the urgency of saving ourselves.
The sea is something that defines us, its salt is full of memories, struggles and shipwrecks, but also of respect and veneration. We remember those who have departed, men and fish, who feed us.
We launched this Salty Sky into the air and to the public so that empathy, respect and the desire to care for this great treasure, which is the SEA, may grow from the eyes of these beings.
We sought the wind as an ally for manipulating the puppets, and we discovered that the fragility of the figures reflects the critical situation facing marine species and habitats.”
This was the first of two artistic residencies in our space before the grand premiere.
