SYNOPSIS
Eça de Queiroz’s last novel is an apologetic piece of writing about some undefined quality of life that appears diffusely indicated. If on the one hand there is an apology for returning to the mountains and the countryside, there is also an attraction and wonder for the city. To return to the affective and mental space of authors who bring us testimonies and feelings about an era is to take a trip back in time. It is therefore about time travel that we are interested in approaching this work, about that ancient and eternal notion of crossing eras and living in landscapes and with companions that existed somewhere along the lines of history.
