11th Montemor-o-Novo International Puppet Festival

Is it an elephant? Is it a bird? Is it a stage set? Is it a puppet? Is it an object?

No, it’s the 11th International Puppet Festival in Montemor-o-Novo, with puppet shows, objects, animated forms, materials, music and multimedia!
May is a month of light, shadows, darkness, images, landscapes, etc… everything can be found in Montemor-o-Novo. All these changes intersect in increasingly critical and free perspectives reflected in a more creative and fair everyday life. To help us in this adventure, where humans intersect or clash with machines, we will have companies from Portugal, Greece, Germany and France, who will show us their perspective on our strange way of life, through the most varied forms of expression.
To give shape to these forms of expression, we are presenting 19 shows, two concerts, an exhibition and a workshop, involving a total of 15 companies. This year, the festival will be extended to the rural villages of Foros de Vale Figueira, Cabrela, S. Cristóvão and S. Geraldo with two shows, which will also give these small communities the opportunity to experience the world of puppet theatre.

We are increasingly strengthening our commitment to the quality of our shows and their innovation and
transversality with other art forms, believing that it is in the differences in language that new paths of artistic enjoyment and new forms of creation and artistic debate are found. That is why we take the words of master Michael Meschke as a source of inspiration: The tradition is a continuous creation in the now.
